My ISP contacted me today and told me that the attachment table was becoming too big and dramitically slowing down the server.

Not a big deal...Im thinking just get rid off all the attachments before 01/01/03 - there may be some threads that it will affect (a small percentage) - but just wanted to run it thru you guys first... I really dont think its gonna do much to the forum integrity.

sound good? a problem for anybody? any other ideas throw them at me :D

Right now, every time someone attaches a file, it gets stored in a table in the database.

Im doing some reading about making attachments individual files on the server... that way there is no table and we dont lose pics...

we'll see :D

How about archiving the forum from say, 10/08/01 until say 4/31/02 and allowing it only to be searchable, no replys to it allowed... I know a couple of forums that have done this.. Just a suggestion.

Don't forget the important sticky's with attachments we don't want to lose those.
