Yes or No on a Notch?

I called one of the local custom shop here and asked how much for them to install a c-notch in without cutting into my floorboards, he said for a 2 1/2 notch welded in around $300. Then he asked what size rim? I said maybe just some stock 15" or 16" 's. You dont need a notch he said unless you run 17" or 18" 's. I asked but wouldnt it give the axel more travel room? It doesnt need more room unless you drop it more than 5". So I said for a 5/5 drop I wouldnt need a notch? NO. But if I got one wouldnt it make me bottomout less? "NO" he said. So my question is with a 5/5 drop should I get a Notch yes or no?

I say yes, if not at least remove the factory bumpstops. My 5/5 drop rode horribly and when i notched about 2" it was a world of difference. I guarantee if you just go look under your truck you will see how close you are to the bumpstops, if not on them. But beware, c-notching can open up a can of worms... you'll get so much suspension travel you might hear the pumpkin hitting the floor, or the pinion hitting the rear x-member.

ditch the bumpstops and get stiff shocks and it should ride okay with a 5-6" drop

first I ditched the bumpstops. It was great, I thought my problems were solved. About 2 days later I started hearing the frame knocking on the rear... C-notched it, awesome! Then a few more days it started clunking again. Proof that the truck kept getting lower the more suspension travel I allowed. Primo360's comment with the stiff shock is the only thing I think you can do. This is why i said fuck it and just decided to bag my blaz.

KYB is a brand of shock...that is compared against my Belltech Shock they are alot stiffer

$300, eh...seems a bit high. Me and a buddy did mine without ever doing one and it took us about 2.5 hours with maybe $10 in material.... suicidedoors.com says a bolt in notch will soon be available for $50...

Belltech or DJM what? notch? Not on a blazer. Have you checked out the tech section on the notch to see what it involves?

not familiar with DJM, i know my belltech shocks are very soft...i can compress them with little pressure, unlike my KYB's which take alot more force.
