do all 2wd s10s and blazer rear ends interchange from all years? Say if I found a 2nd gen 2wd with posi and 3.73s?

ok i looked at my rear axle today for my codes and was more confused then when i started. printed on the axle housing where blazin8 mentioned i found the following code:
GAJK1463
what the hell does that mean? i took the orignal dash out cause i swaped it with a different one, so i need to do some digging to get to the original dash and was hoping the rear axle would tell me what i had.
anyone have any clues?

Are you sure you are looking on the correct part of the axle??
Front of passenger side housing just to the inside of the spring perch.

yup, it was printed, er, more etched into the axle housing. i had to use a wire brush to get rid of the gunk that was covering it, but thats definately what it said. no ideas huh?

ok dug out the old dash today and got the sticker off it, i have a open diff with a 3:42.
still though i am currious why i have a wierd number on my axle housing

That's odd, I will have to look under my 87 tomorrow and see what it says. I was talking to a guy at a boneyard and he's the one who told me where to look on the axle. It worked on all the ones there but I was looking for 4.10s and couldn't find any. At least you figured it out. I would keep that little part of the dash for future reference though

3:73 whut i got in the pickup and 4:11 in the blazer
if you can't figure it out you could always just pop off the cover and count the # of teeth on the ring then the pinion. then divide the 2 numbers and thats what your gear is. if your ring # is 41 and your pinion # is 12 divide the two #'s would be 3.4166666666... so round it off it would be 3.42 rear hope this helps
ok is there a rpo code for rearends with LSD's? im just wonderin. cause im think bout gettin a s-10 and i like to know what to look for. but my blazer has 3.42's i dont know about the other part. i didnt know there were other codes and such.
thanks

how does this work, higher gear ratio more acceleration? or do I have it backwards
Completion Date- Whenever the hell I get time
yea,the higher thegear the quicker to top speed..but the higher you are in gears thats more wear and tear on other things..think of it this way....4:11 would be used in drag and 3:00 would be a highway gear..Originally posted by lowLIFEBlazer

I'm looking at a rear end we got out of an 89 Blazer 2wd 4.3 auto. I forget what the RPO codes are, but we dont have the dash, no title, no doors. All we have are the rear end. but its not marked where blazin8 sys it is. All that is on there is KUK 265 1 that is it. I can turn the 3rd member and both wheels turn. So i'm assuming it the g80., right? Any other ways to know what rear end gears it has? Or is taking the cover off my best bet?
