    335 Stroker??

Alright, what I am doing here is a long story but I was wondering if you guys know anything about stroking a 305? I am wanting to build a really original engine. I figured a 305 bored .030" and a 400 (cut to the 305s journal size of course) crank would make a 335 which I beleive would be an original motor. Anyway what size rods should I use? 5.7s, 6.0s??? I am at a loss when it comes to stroking. What about pistons, heads 58cc, 64cc...etc.. I figured it'd be identical to a 383, just smaller bore, but I have never stroked a motor and am clueless! Thanks in advance!

Actually...I just read something on this a while back....not sure where. Most 305's came with the tiny little 58cc heads (I've got 2 or 3 sets of them here). If I remember correctly, to get the 335, you use the stock 400 crank, turned, and I think you may need to get the block line bored too...and use stock 400 connecting rods. I'm pretty sure there are some clearance problems at the bottoms of the cylinders that need to be addressed too....

Thanks for the input. I know I am going to have to change the compression height. With a 400 crank and 5.7" rods I could just use the 1.425 compression height(the same as a 383's compression height) then I was thinking of putting 64cc heads on it. I want a 335 not a 355. Thanks!

that was a typo..my bad..hehe. You could always runn dished pistons to drop the c.r. a bit. If you can hunt down a set of 64cc 305 heads you'll be set. I don't remember if the 350/305 heads are interchangable...I'm pretty sure they are though...

you know I don't think 350 heads fit the 305... At least that is what edelbrock makes it sound like it says fits 302, 327, 350, and 400s... I need to find some edelbrock heads that will fit a 305 though....

PAW's got a set of Super Stock heads, 64cc heads for like 469, I think they've got them in 1.94/1.50 valves too..

Super Chevy did a 334 in their giveaway Camaro buildup and said they wouldn't do it again. They said they would just get a 350 for the power and lack of hassles. Big dollars for not a lot of power.

I do remember seeing that write up. But, it's a unique motor....a little different. Pricy, but different :D I was gonna do something similar with a 305, but even the cost of just a standard rebuild kit was twice what a 350 kit was...it was more cost effective for me to build the 350 up

To make a long story real short price doesn't matter it could be 3 times as costly as 350 and I'd still build the 335 don't ask it is a top-secret project of mine. I can use Edelbrock heads I just can't have any lift over .450" so I got Comp Cams 260H which is .440"/.440" and the duration is around 212/212 I think. How many horses do you guys think I'll have?

If price doesn't matter, why not go bigger? Truethfully, how many 415, 427, 434, 454 small blocks have you seen?

Those motors will make some serious power, and turn heads when you say you've got a 454 small block.

Im not sure. I'd be worth it in my opinion to just buy the rotating assembly from somewhere. Like Hardcore, World, etc.

as for your stroked 305, I had the exact same set up that you are describing, and was not impressed. It had a bunch of good parts in it and didn't make shit for power. Oh it made some decent power, but only for like 1000 rpm, then just when it started making power, it would shit all over itself and quit pulling. It was built professionally and all of the components were matched. If you want something different, and you want a small motor, go buy a steel 283 crank, and throw it in a 327 block and make yourself a 302. Had one of those too, and it screamed. Or just go hog wild and build a stroker 400 out to like 434ci like zz4 said.

305= waste of money. I beat a 85-87? 305 HO TPI Trans Am with little mods to my 4.3L 2 door blazer, all were bolt-ons. I took him by about 2 cars
