    black smoke

    hey, when i rev my engine fairly high or give it alot of gas on the highway, it puts out a little bit of black smoke, not much but noticable. What does that mean.

    Ok, though that maybe, i didnt think it would get like that though since its F.I., but i guess all engines can get out of tune so.... What do i need to do, it doesnt need a tune up does it? Could the computer just need reset? what do you think?

    probably your o2 sensor that sensor tells your engines computer to give it more or less gas when nedded so that would be my best guess.

    those arent real expensive if i remember, will that effect my performance very much?

    Hey, so does anyone think it would be the o2 sensor since i dont have a ses light on?

    its probably not your mixutre.. probably jnsut worn rings or cyinder walls or both... how many miles are on the truck?

    have you checked your oil level? it might just be u got too much oil.

    yeah, i always check it. I actually had to add more. I dont think its rings or cylinder walls, cuz wouldnt that be blue smoke?

    When you go into wot (wide open throttle) your computer goes into open loop mode. That means that instead of your computer making instant changes in your fuel mixture it gets put on a set mixture. At wot it's basically dumping the fuel in. It's common on vehicles that are equipped with OBD I, which your truck has.

    My thoughts are that your cat. convert. is clogged. when they are they usually puff a little bit of black smoke here and there.

    If the converter was clogged he would notice more than just black smoke coming from the tail pipe.

    not if it was jus becoming clogged or partly cloged
