    painting the engine?

right now i'm in the middle of doing an engine swap, and i wanna paint my block and other parts. any special paint i should get, and special prep work to consider. i already sanded down and cleaned the parts, plus the paint i've got right now is engine enamel good up to 500 degrees F . do i need higher temp paint to do the intake manifold, or exhaust headers? any suggestions? currently i'm planning on doing orange block with blue parts and some chrom:D

the headers are pretty much gonna cook off any paint you put on them. BUt the engine enamel spray paint will work fine. If you manifold is an aftermarket aluminum one id leave it alone, they look cool.

autozone sells engine paint with ceramic additive to stand up to the extra heat, and in all colors I might add. Don't even bother painting the headers though.

sweet! I was hoping it wouldn't be limited to just like Red and Black or really basic colors.

Now, what parts of the engine can be painted with automotive grade paint? What would need to be added to the paint to handle that heat?

I think you have to cure whatever it is you paint with the ceramic paint within 1-hour in an oven for like 600 degrees F, or else it will flake off. I imagine it's just like a powdercoat

    Talking

paint i'm using is called "high heat 1200f" just spray it on wait 24 hrs and its good, i tested this paint out b4 doing my engine, i painted an old water pump and took a blowtouch to it, the touch gets a lot hotter then 1200f but i decided to see how long it would hold up, to my surprize it held up pretty good. i also painted like every part of my engine so far, i'll post pics later when i got it all together

its $6.99 cdn funds for a can. i used two cans to do my block, and about 1.5 cans on all my parts. i got a lil paint happy doing 2 coats on everything to ensure i covered everything and it looks alright.

POR15 makes an engine paint kit that has solvent, metal prep POR15 and a special top coat paint that is available in 20 colors. Also has paint brushes, face mask and gloves.

    http://www.por15.com/product.asp?productid=319

Cost is 40 bucks. But it looks like a quality product, probably never have to paint that block again.

Their exhaust paint is good for 1400 deg F. But it costs $26 a pint. Got 3 colors to choose from.
Gotta get rid of these left over 95 Camaro parts. Need doors???
