It stablizes the front end at higher speed. Plus its tighter. Like when you are steering or turning, it gives you better handling. Tie rod ends have a little play in them even when there new. Rack and pinion does not have this(play in the front end). At high speeds, the ball joints and tie rods will cause the front end to shack. Having a rack and pinion will keep the front stable at high speeds. Allot of drag racers will convert there front ends on there cars to rack and pinion. The rack and pinion still has tie rod ends but they are a hole lot better than a regular front end. Plus the front steering gear box is different. Its actually in the rack itself.

LOL....nope. The front end couldn't handle the harmonics at that speed. Your blazer could go that fast but the front end would be vibrating so bad. Dont think you'd be able to keep it on the track...lol.

hmmm... Well other than the rack, what else can be done. If I can ever get my other motor together, I'd like to add a set of lower gears, like a 3.42/3.55 for madd top end.

I'll have more than enough tq. Too much for a set of 3.73 or better gears and street tires. Right now, I don't even usually use 1st gear unless Im racing or trying to get off the line quick. And Im shooting for close to twice the tq.

A full independent suspension. Four link would help out as well at high speeds. What other motor are you talking about? Think you might have a problem getting the 3.55 gears in your rear end. :bigthumb:

Give us some details. Like, what did you have to do too get it to fit? What kind of problems did you run into to? Got any install pictures? How did you run across this idea?

Well, if I can ever get the cash up for it, Im gonna be doing a full out stroker.

    383 w/ 4340 forged internals
    AFR 195 heads
roller blower cam. around 230/236 duration, .550 lift
    matched Air GAP intake
    AFR hydra- rev kit
    1.5 roller rockers
    full MSD ignition
    750 holley w/Proform main body
    blower box
    and......

    D-1SC Procharger pushing 9-10 psi

Im shooting for 675-700 hp. Trying to make it fully streetable and driveable everyday if I want. Keep the cam mild, and the compression down for pump gas. Im trying to get everthing planned out, and all matched up to make max power.

I know my stock rear won't handle that. I'd like to come up with the cash for a small nitrous kit this summer to fullfill my speed needs for now. I don't know if my stocker will hold up to that. I'll probably end up getting a 9" or 12 bolt from someone like Moser of Currie. I know no one makes 3.55's for the 7 1/2, 7 5/8's.
I also wanna get a new set of 18's, run about the widest rubber I can all around. I'd like to try and tuck something like a 305/35/18.

I'll probably end up running a 4 link, and coilovers out back.
