    HEDMAN Hedders...

Okay... I've looled at both the full lenghth(HED-69490) and shorty hedders(HED-69520) for my soon 2 be V8 S-10 from SUMMIT. a couple questions for both...

    1. they say you must have a floor shift, is that 100% true?

    2. One of the two said it would only work with a 350-Turbo tranny:confused: why is that and is that true?

    3. Which is better? (SEE POLL)

    ANY HELP PLEASE:cool:

Save your self some time and get some shortys. Full length is pretty time consumeing on the install. You will have some problems getting tire clearance. And you will probalby have to take out your wheel wells.

It's quite the bitch to install so I hear.

Floor shifter, for headers!!!! That makes no sense, unless the linkage on a differnt shifter got in the way.
The tranny idea doesnt make any sense either unless somehow the lenght, or the cross members block the exhaust in some way..

I dunno they would have to tell me why to make me beleive it.

Full length headers take up room in your wheel wells and run into the cross member shorty headers cause to much clearence of the firewall better to stay with stock manifolds.
Get the manual from www.jagsthatrun.com they explain all of this and other problems you might run into with this swap. Im getting ready to do my own a 1989 S10 4x4. Write me at mtyoung@seidata.com if you want and we can exchange ideas.

Yah that was my thought on the tranny and shifter problems summit posted 8MPG... It just didn't make sense. as for clearenc on the shorty headers i all ready know how EZ they install and how little problems you would have with those due to how many people i know that have them. I just want to do this part of the install once and not come back and change it down the road. my main consern is will full lenght add any more horsies than shorties. whats ther pros and cons?

Yeah, as for horsepower on headers. I am sure the increase isn't too great vs shorty, or full lenght. I am sure you would get alot of torque because of backflow, but the differnece isn't worth the work. Having wheel wells will make you happy so you don't get your motor all dirty. I get pissed when mine gets dusty :)

Yeah, dood really.... My truck is fast as hell man. It has way to many balls for a blazer. My truck handles likes a sled...
    Well it handled...
I cant drive it for another 10 months :(

I'm sure you will realize your truck is plenty fast when you get the 350 in.....

3-5 hp isnt worth the time, and money.. With that time and money you spend trying to do that you could probably get 50..

    Headers

I have full length headers on my Blazer.

The reason for the floor shifter when using headers is there really isn't any room left for the linkage after all the tubes go thruogh the area. (even shorties)

For horsepower get the full length. Why put a lot of work in a motor and then don't let it breath?

I had the wheel wells in my Blazer and all you had to do was cut a hole in them for the tube to pass through. I took mine out for weight reduction and cooling.

A 700R4 works with the full length headers but you have to trim the bellhousing on the tranny some to get the collector through next to the frame.

I worked on getting my headers in about 1 night and 1 full day including wrapping them in DEI heat wrap.

The exits on the full length are a little close to the crossmember but I still have 3" pipe to the collector bent over the top of the X-member with out too many problems.

In you are going all out on the motor get the full length, if the SB is mild put in the shorties.

To see some pics go to my web site.

Thede are the only mods for the 350 entering my blazer:

    9.5:1 Forged pistons
    600 edelbroke carb
    bored 30 over (355)
    Headers???
    upgraded(from stock) plugs & wires
Edelbroke intake manifold(signature seires I think)

not a whole lot. just what I thought to be needed to make the swap all well worth it. some day if I feel like putting serious power to it I will just add to what I have .like add a shot of NOS or somthing.

    laughing gas

If you are adding juice later you might want to think about the full length headers.
