I'm with bigjsp, why go with stronger internals if your not even willing to swap cams? Maybe try a GM LT1 hot cam, not my #1 choice in cams, but hey, it's better than stock. Lots of TPI guys run the hot cam or lingenfelter's 219 camshaft. As far as forged pistons and stuff goes, you can squeeze a 150 shot to hypereutectic pistons, although I would not do it everyday. A 100 shot is perfectly safe on a stock bottom end though.

yea regardless if i changed internals i was gonna run 100 shot but i may as well get closer to being ready for a 150 shot.

o.k i'm gonna contemplate the cam idea...

i just called a local engine building shop and i got a couple quotes.
$2260 for a full stock rebuild.
$1640 for a 383 crank (the owner of the shop has the same motor and suggested this)
and for a cam kit installed $550.

$3500 doesnt seem too bad compared to the prices i've been seeing around here for a complete job.

the intake of a tpi can't really support a 383, it'll run out of breath at about 4000 rpm's. That's why I went with a superram

yea 383..im not going for that...

im considering looking into a shortblock, either an L98 or an L31.. SDPC2000.com has them for like 1200 U.S but what the hell is that in canadian dollars?
if i can get a shortblock for 2 grand canadian and just throw all my accessories and tpi on that then i'll be happier...but for now im lookin for the cheapest route but there really doesnt seem to be any!

Short blocks don't really make the power........... intake, heads and cam make the power. Exhaust / headers helps but to a lesser degree than people would like to admit as often, it just sounds faster because its louder, IMO.

But unfortunately you've got short block problems NOW.

    http://www.chevy-350-engines.com/che...html?catid=111

your core is worth around $600 but for 1000 to 1500 you could be in action

this is just the first site I found.

    http://www.truckengines.com/highperf.html has a 295 core.

The only thing you neeed to check is whether the core must match the one you are getting and sometime their are problems if you've spun bearing and the crank won't clean up.

As of noon today it was $1578.2 Canadian
    Shipping would be $390
That seems a little high for shipping. Must be a border thing.

Don't forget if you have to pay $$$$ ship your core back to them. Might be cheaper to keep it and pay the core charge.

theres 2 engines here that im looking at. one specifies this :
    87-92 5.7
Roller cam, aluminum heads, 2-bolt main, SFI, Gen II $1129
    the other is this:
    87-92 5.7
Roller cam, 2-bolt main, TPI. $1129

neither of them come with manifolds or fuel injection system.
Now i would think i should go for the one for the TPI but isnt SFI almost the same thing? and arent aluminum heads better? for the same price too. sequential fuel injection is what SFI stands for right? whats the difference here?..
these motors are fully assembled and balanced and built to or beyond gm specs.
