well the best one is probably the ford 9 from what i hear...

However i have a 96 with a 350 and it hasnt hurt the stock rear with 110k on it...
If you have a mild 350 you should be ok with a slightly stock axle, just as long as you dont get good grip.

I am going to upgrade to a ZR-2 blazer rear axle, it is a stock 8.5 in with 3.73s and disc brakes and a direct bolt on for new blazers... It might stick out a little wide on a 1st gen but theres a guy that has a first gen with that axle, and i personally think it looks hot like that away...

a ZR-2 axle can be had for about 350 to 700 dollars depending on the salvage yard and miles...

    hope that helps, drew

Or you could try and find a regular 8.5" from a 2wd, which fits like it should on a 2wd.

96 and newer trucks or blazers with the 4.3L engine and a 5 speed tranny.. Those are the only defenites.. Some of the other trucks had the 8.5 as an option. To see if its an 8.5, the pumpkin will look different as opposed to the 7 5/8" (I believe its more square) and the axle tubes will flare out right before entering the pumpkin.. If you have those two things, then you have an 8.5" rear

hey dooter, go here to search salvage yards

ive found several of those axles in my area

    www.car-part.com

the ZR-2 off road blazers have the 8.5 with 3.73s

search for a mid 90s blazer, then a new 2000 or so youll get different results i noticed... you can search by gear ratio and axle size on top of that :)

[zz4blazer] those rears won't work. REgular 4wd rears are 4" wider than 2wd, and ZR2 rears are 4" wider than regular 4wd's (8" wider total).. So unless you want some seriously sticking out of your wheels, a zr2 8.5 wont work [/zz4blazer]
