Please read before you post in this section

Im going to do some articles on stereo stuff in our rides, I know a few of us are tired of posting the same ol same ol responses to "where do I run my power wire" or " what fits in my truck?"

before I start this, you will need a GM battery tap availible at any auto parts store , Walmart, or any car stereo place if you still have a side post only battery

    Running your power wire

so heres the answer on where to drill or run the power wire(s).
If you have an automatic, you can drill where the clutch would normally go on the drivers side next to the brake booster. You will usually have a piece of the rubber inside that can be taken out, do that and you'll see the stamped steel where the hole goes. Drill a hole there, dont forget to use a grommet it so it doesnt short out. While on this side you can also use one of the factory grommets here by taking them out and cutting or drilling a hole for the wire.

If you have a standard, or just wanna use less wire ( the batteries are on the pass side and if you go to the drivers side then back, you using alot more than you have to. You can go on the pass side by either drilling a hole (and using a grommet), or going threw the factory antenna grommet right at the edge of the carpet under the ac plastic.

If you going to use 8 or 10 gauge wires, a factory grommet is fine. If you using a 4ga or bigger, start drilling and USE A GROMMET!

incase you dont know, a grommet is a piece of plastic with a hole in it that snaps into a hole so the rubber insulation of a wire doesnt rub on the naked jagged ends of metal so the wire doesnt short out. You run your wire through the hole so we dont have to answer the question of "why do I keep blowing fuses everytime I put them in"

What Fits Where in my Ride?

All 82 to 04 S-10s and Blazers take 4x6s in the dash
All 82 to 04 S-10s take either 4x6s or 4x10s in the rear. Just look at it, if its a huge oval, its a 4x10, if its oval but closer to a circle , its a 4x6.
All 83-94 2 door Blazers use 6x9s in the rear
All 83-94 4 door blazers use 6 3/4s in the rear
All 94-04 S-10s and 95-04 Blazers use 6 3/4s in the front doors
All 95-04 Blazer 2 doors use 6x9s in the rear
All 95-04 4 door Blazers use 5 1/4s(front of the door) or 6 3/4s (in the rear of the door) in the rear doors.

All 82-02ish S-10s and Blazers are din and a half
the 03ish and 04s are double din

from the 82-around 87 you'll need a harness like this:
    http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...&CategoryID=78
    or this one : http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=70-1677-1

and the dash kit works till 93 on S-10s and till 94 on S-10 Blazers: http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...B&CategoryID=5
    or : http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=99-4544

    starting around 88 till 02 you'll need this wiring harness : http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...&CategoryID=78
    or this one: http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=70-1858

and you'll also need an antenna adaptor from 88 till 04
    http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=40-GM10

The 94-97 S-10s and 95-97 Blazers take this dash kit: http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...B&CategoryID=5

the 98-02, 03ish S-10s and Blazers take this kit: http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=99-3300
    or this one: http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...B&CategoryID=5

03ish and up S-10s and Blazers take this dash kit: http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...B&CategoryID=5

and this wiring harness if you wanna keep your door chime: http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...&CategoryID=78
this one if you dont mind losing it: http://www.scosche.com/scosche.aspx?...&CategoryID=78

if you fall into the 03ish category, you'll know as your door chime comes out the left front door speaker if the key is in the ignition or the parking lights are on. You'll also know as you have a double din radio

this is not true. most blazers run off the 6 1/2's in the door and can only safely hold tweeters. might want to edit that.

All 95-04 4 door Blazers use 5 1/4s in the rear NOT CORRECT

I will speak for myself but in my 1997 4 door Blazer, 6 3/4 fit perfect in front with no mods but the rear doors use 6 1/2 with no mods and NOT 5 1/4s. Dash speakers are 4X6 ( I chose not to install any)

    Hope that helps!

yeah I know, I just had a 4 door prove me wrong the other day. This was the first one Ive done that didnt have 5.25s in back
I think the diffference is that the 6 3/4 is in the back of the door and the 5 1/4 is in the front of the door
