Fast is relative, if you're asking if it can be improved... yes. Can it be as fast as a v8, no. Could you waste a lot of money by boring the block, porting and polishing the heads, blueprinting the engine, installing a trick fuel injection system, ontop of a forced induction system to maybe crank out 300 horsepower, downhill with a strong wind at your back.... yes. But the motor would shake itself apart.

Everybody says go with a v8, which is a good option, but if you're strapped for cash, and need to get something bigger and better, the 3.1 v6 is a good swap, even though it's really just a bored and stroked 2.8. It's all relative.

like otter said, if you dont have alot of green. i put a cam and headers in my 2.8 and it made it better well alot, i was able to keep up to my buddys 4.3 and i had more weight i had 4x4 and he had a 2wd.

also i got about 13-15 mpg and had to run off of super. the little engine thought it was a top fuel engine. lol

In theory..................................... if a 2.8 and a LS1 were dropped from an airplane the 2.8 would hit the ground first. :bigthumb:

Despite the "accepted" fact that Newton was correct and objects fall at the same speed ( true in a vacuum but that really sucks)....................The reality of falling objects is that terminal velocities differ dependent on density and aero dynamic properites. That is why a a 20 pound parachute will fall slower than a 20 pound brick of lead.

Therefore since steel/iron is more dense than aluminum the terminal velocity should favor the more dense object and the 2.8 should be faster than the pedominantly aluminum LS1 .
