Can a 2.8L ever be fast

Throw a Holley TBI on it or if its carberated throw a Holley carb on

it that should give you some more gas. install a carb or TBI

spacer depending on your application, If you have a TBI you can \

also place a Fuel injector spacer in it this will definitly give some

more air. Take of the catalytic converter put on a good stainless

exhaust system with some hedders and an open air element.

Put in a Cam and some roller rockers and you've got your self a

    decent contender in some races.

This is what i recently did to my blazer and i smokes those 4.3's

and believe me it sound awesome too.

Good luck with this its very expensive it cost me about a $1,000

and i did the work my self.

2.8v6 even with new exhaust, intake, fuel injection system, camshaft, and roller rockers in a 4x4 is not going to outrun a stock 4.3 unless the 4.3 is on its last legs.

I've been that route, only mine was bored out, with oversize pistons, underdrive pulleys, and an electric fan. On top of all the other crap that you listed, and I still couldn't outrun 4.3's.

    Don't kid yourself.

In the Quarter mile it runs in the Mid 18's on a nice day, also I

don't think i mentioned that its also 5-speed with a short throw

shifter, and a performance clutch. It also has an electric fan.

But I agree The 4.3 that i raced was on its last leg my friend just

recently sold it for about $2,000, with a blown engine. If your

wondering why so much the body was in mint condtion with

custom paint and with a 4" cowl hood. to cover that piece of

$hit engine of his. Instead of painting his truck i think he

should have paid more attention to his engine compartment.

    Do You Agree

Painting a vehicle is usually a quick way to jack the asking price up before you sell it. I am all about looking good while going fast, so I kinda like a flashy exterior. The 2.8 can be reliable and can offer decent gas mileage, but it will never be anything close to a performance motor in a vehicle such as ours. I think it would seriously eat a 4.3 if you put it in a lawn mower, or possibly even built a small go-kart. But... that's another story :D

the blazer in my avitar was a 2.8. had port and polished heads, bored out, crane cam, edelbrock headers, no cat and a flowmaster, fliped the lid lol and 93 octane gas.

my truck was also a 4x4 and had the 5 speed.

my buddy had a 4.3 auto two wheel drive.

from a dead stop i was about 2 to 3 cars on him, and at the begining i had little traction the tires were just spinning.

i had him 1st to 4th and when i put it in 5th he started pulling.

i dont know how long the road was but in the quarter you will never use 5th gear.

but it was not worth the money. it got about 12 mpg and you had to use super or it would detonate and ping

The same thing happened to me they usually pull on you after the Quarter mile is up the they talk like they beat you.
    Not realizing they alreadt lost.

The 2.8L is lighter and faster off the line as long as you pull on them in the beginning you have a chance at the end.

that last comment sounded kinda ricerish. my 4.3 is sluggish as hell right now and i bet i could beat that 2.8 with 2 of my plug wires unhooked.

bottom line, the 2.8 is one of the worst engines(if not the #1) ever made. its pointless to put any money at all into it. you could spend 5-7 grand on a 2.8 and maybe hit low 16's.

this thread keeps showing up in my email, i was just wondering what the hell it was still doing alive.... the 2.8 should be melted down and used to build much better engines. GM should hang there heads in shame they have had there head in there ass for the last 20 years.

i know it's harsh but GM coulda done things alot better then they have
