    rattling sound?

    hey
i've started to notice lately that my truck is making a rattling sound. it only happens when i first start it for a couple secs and whenever i accelerate from a stop and sometimes when ideling. depending on the engine rpm. i checked all my heatr sheilds on the exhaust but i'm pretty sure its coming from the front drivers side in the engine compartment somewhere near the wheel well. i know this isn't much to work with but any suggestions would be nice.

alright sont every reply at once now
    haha
well i was wrong about the location of the sound its coming from directly under the truck tranny area. It mainly happens when i accelerate from a stop when in gear it also only happens in a certain rpm range. if the tranny is in park it wont do it at all, the only time it will do it at idle is when i'm in gear.

If it is happening directly under the transmission area, it could be your flywheel. Have it checked out by someone that you trust. A flywheel from a reputable shop installed is about $400...

If you raise the idle and it stops then it isn't the flywheel...

Blazer88FAstNLo, I can get that flywheel changed on my 4l60E for about $175 because the guy I know is a close friend of mine.I pay him enough to cover his expenses plus extra because he is doing me a favor... But, for the average consumer from a reputable repair shop that will stand behind there work, $400 seems to be around the norm...

it only happens at a certain rpm a little higher than idle.
if anyone here has taken physics and know what mechanical resonance is that it only happens at a certain frequency or rpm no other time.

    it was soo obvious

    hey
yeah i figured out what it was
it was the heat shield over the cat. the only time i ever heard it was when i was in the cab but today i took it for a spin parked it in the driveway put on the parking brake and put in gear got out and i could hear it so i tracked it down to the exhaust, good thing had me kind of worried there with the tranny. Hoping the 2.8 will last till 350 conversion
