broke a ball joint driving tonight

Well I was driving around town about an hour ago, hitting the switches you know, I get on this one road thats real smooth so I raise the front all the way and drop the back all the way. Im cruising like that for a lil while and I hear BOOM.....KKKKKKKK.....*grinding noises* My buddy freaks out and thinks hes dying or something, so Im like FUCK. Pull over with quikness get out and am amazed at the fact that the wheel is sitting cambered like nothing youve ever seen. At this point Im pissed cause my buddy was thinking about trading me cars and I doubt he is now. So calmly I lay down and look and see the lower control arm isnt attached to the spindle any longer. I call my mom have her come get me, I grab a jack and tools, head back and fix it broke down on one of the main roads, well didnt fully fix it but got it movable and brought it on home. So it looks like I got something to do tomorrow if it doesnt rain.

Well the partial fix was drill a hole through the hole where the cotter pin would be and shove a grade 8 bolt through there and tightened it down really well. I had to do that because the threads were stripped really well on the ball joint. Thankfully it worked so that I could get it home and not call a tow truck, of corse I drove really slow.

I told myself I was gonna take pics of it but I ended up forgetting to bring the camera with me.

And its funny cause the ball joint was good to begin with, I guess the pin broke somehow then the bolt backed itself off and BANG.

Well it looks like its not going to rain so Im gonna fix it today and hopefully have it back out and about tonight. And I got an extra door shaved so I guess Ill throw that and my new hood on while Im at it.
