    ball joint question

    im having trouble getting my lower ball joints off. i know theres a press to get them off and on but now im stuck at home so i need to figure out how to do it since i cant get to an auto parts store. i read in an old post about the C clamp to get it off so im going to try that out but what about getting it on?

    You should be able to hammer them out it might take a while but they will come out. Then you use a ball joint c-clamp to press them in a regular thin walled c-clamp will not work it probably will break plus you won't have the proper ring for the balljoint to press against.

    If your gonna buy a ball joint press check out www.harborfreight.com they have ball joint presses for 30 bucks. You might be able to get overnight shipping if you need it quick

    If i remember right, i used an air hammer to get it off. You "chop" the tops of the rivits or somthing like that, its been a while. You dont have to use a press, so dont give up, just keep working on it.

    super bee- 2wd and 4wd have diffrent bjs. the bottom isnt riveted on like ares.

    oh ok, thanks, heh, i looked in the old haynes manual to double check, and i never read anything about that but I swore i had to take out rivits on the bottom.

    4wd yes

    thats what makes 4wd kinda easier but then again you got the freakin half shaft in the way...well did atleast

    Btw, i didnt mean i looked that up after you said that because i didnt believe you, i looked it up when i made the first post. I reread it and that kinda what it sounded like.

    But yeah, i ended up taking my half shafts out and it is so much easier to work on stuff now.
