the bondo will crack on the roof end of story, I have seen it before, they should be welded but atleast JB weld it

edit- now that i think of it if you want it smooth then the only way is welding them, JB weld would fall through from you taking it down to make it flush with the roof IMO

hm. i was planning on using the jb for the rack holes. but not just straight bondo on the lines. ive read about people using 'bondo-glass' or tiger hair or whatever else they market it as (body filler and fiber glass) and them having good results even after some time.

what if you cut off the bolt head and jb welded it. maybe put some red loc tite on the threads first?
I myself can't weld but know people who do.
I'd like to do as much work as I can. So was thinking that way woiuld work if you can't weld.

I just did mine and the JB weld worked great for the small trim holes but the roof rack holes were too big so I took it to a body shop and had them weld them up. If you have your headliner out and the area around the holes striped to bare metal they wont charge you much since allthey have to do is weld. I offered to grind it myself but they even did that. If I would have know it was that cheap I would of had them all welded, but the JB was quick and easy. I did dimple the hole down a little to get it to hold better and they came out nice.

Yes the roof will flex. :nono:

Just weld it, dont try to work your way around this. Ive been cruising around with bolts in my roof for almost a year now until I have the time and someone with the experience to weld them up for me.

so how many of you guys have left the bolts in the hole and then welded it? the more i think about it, what if i just grind down the lip and the bolt and smooth it out with some sort of filler? i dont have a problem doing a little welding, but is it even necessary? and if i do leave the bolts in and weld, i dont see any reason to take out the headliner.

I just used the epoxy metal and it is holding up just fine. I didn't leave the bolts in it.

Just had mine done on Friday. I took the headliner out, grinded out the roofrack holes (they fall right down, you wouldnt want a red hot piece of metal on your headliner). We welded them all up, including the strips.

Fire isnt fun, I'd take the headliner out its not that much work.
