    ummm...how do I drive my 4x4?

I'm driving through the mountains in a couple weeks on a roadtrip to Florida. I'll be in my dad's 95 4x4 Blazer with a small 6x8 trailer on the back, no more than 1000 lbs loaded.

I've never had to deal with 4x4 so I don't know the 4high/4 low difference. It will be all smooth roads, but traveling high into the mountains and back down.

What is the best time to use which selection? Can I shift while in motion? Do I want it on 4wd the whole time towing, or switch to 2wd on open highway?

1000 lbs you may need it going up steep grades but on open roads i`d say no 4x4 is needed.

only use 4wd when u need it, hence bad road conditions, or where your vehicles rear tires spin and no traction.

and 4hi you can go into when driving, 4 low you have to stop, put the trans in neutral then shift the transfer case. Idk if yours is the old style or electronic.

4x4 ='s bad gas mileage so use it as little as needed... i don't really think u will ever have to use 4 low... but if it is push button 4x4 u can shift from 2wd to 4 high while in motion... i think its like under 55 mph or something... be sure to run it with over drive off though or u will burn the crap out the tranny...

    thanks for the tips guys

pretty much leave it at 2wd until I start getting bogged down by the hills, and hit 4hi, with overdrive off?

It's a pushbutton on the dash.

You shouldn't need 4x4 at all on a highway just because your pulling a trailer. Your wasting money on gas if you use 4 hi. How do guys with 2wd trucks pull trailers? if you think you have to have it in 4hi don't go faster than 50mph

You shouldn't use 4x4 at all on a hard road except in snow. Owners manual says to only use it if the wheels are on slippery surfaces. 4x4 on a hard dry road will chew things up.

I pulled a U-Haul with my v6 s10 from florida to michigan through the mountains and had no problem, I would say just drive in the regular drive when in the hills and not OD just to keep the trans from shifting so much but you may not even need to do that the mountains I went through are not as steep as you would think, you hear mountain and are like oh shit but it's realy not that bad.

Last time I drove through the mountains up from Florida I was in the clouds, literally. It wasn't too bad of a drive, but you could tell the minivan was straining.

I'm moving my girlfriend down to Sanford (Orlando area), from there, I'll be heading to Plant City to check out the company I work for and see about my transfer. I'm gonna meet up with CuntStud sometime to drop off an amp. I'll be down there for a few days. Any suggestions on night life?

Cool you'll be just around the corner from me! So you are moving too? I'm not too good with night life in that area but I know CuntStud knows where the hot spots are!! Are you gonna be down here in time for SlamFest? Oct. 7-8?
