    doesent any one think that different gears would help the super charger? i had a rear end with of 4:11's in my s-10 with an lt1` and it was wicked fast. now i have a 3:42 w/disc brakes and its still fast just not as crazy as before. im thinking about 3:73 isthat what factory EXTREMES run? :confused:

    gears usually play little role in boosted app, all the sy/ty's came with 3.42. but technicall the lower gear on a turbo app helps to build boost.

    technically there is no Extreme its an Xtreme.

    4 cylinder 5 speed standard cabs got 3.73/4.10
    4 cylinder auto std cab got 4.10's
    4.3 auto got 3.42's
    4.3 5 speed got 3.08/3.42

    just becuase its an xtreme dosent mean it has any thing done performance wise

    im not sure what his headunit is suposed to fit but he has commend at it only supplying 600cfm (or was it 900?)

    on a side not mike is getting more power out of a low compression N/A motor then some are getting out of a stock 4.3 with boltons and N20. so what does that tell ya

    i was thinking about gear and a super charger, since all gears do is move the power band. a numerically higer (lower ratio) gear set would be very helpfull on a superchared motor. it would help the vehicle get out f the hole quicker and help the motor wind up in the RPM a little easier thus making the super build boost quicker

    except in a nitro dragster

    borrow some tires if you want to expirament with a 10% gear change roughly 2.5- 3" shorter or taller if possible

    Does anyone have a time slip for a relatively stock xtreme blazer with a supercharger?

    i did this after my t56 swap. my stocker wer 25.5" tall tires and then i bought a set of zq8 wheels and tires with 27.1" tall tires and i can actually FEEL a differnce in gearing between the tires. granted ive still gotta slip the clutch till about 10 mph but the stockers make it get off the line a tad bit easier.

    4.56 are on the way :bigthumb:

    I went from a 28" tire to a 25" tire height and it was a HUGE differance. Also my 97 4x4 Blazer is stock with 3.73's... Basicly I'm guessing it would be equal to a 3.90 gear change, or maybe just a bit steeper, either way I love it off the line, but hate it for the interstate as I gained about 3-400 rpm's.
    As for WHICH supercharger... I would agree with Tippman's comment on Vortech being the better (or best) when compared to Powerdyne. I've heard now from several people that the Powerdyne S/C's throw belts more often than they should. Basicly the only downside to the Vortech is that it cost about $1k more, and it's a bigger install project since it has the oil cooler lines, and the Powerdyne doesn't. I think that sums it up...
    Chime in if I missed anything guys. Thanks for all the interest, I really like where this thread had gone, lots of good info! :bigthumb:

    to reply to 02extremeblaze-i would budget about 30 hours for the Powerdyne install(2 weekends and the weeknites inbetween) so that you can do a quality job and not be rushed-the most akward part was the install of the headers-you may want to farm this task out to an exhaust shop and have them fab a custom exhaust for you as well (free-flowing exhaust would be your next mod)-install the iridium spark plugs after you remove the oem exhaust manifolds-i also recommend using a breather filter(K&N # B020A4) on the PCV hose routed through the factory airbox-i also used a 4 ply silicone reinforced rubber hose(Vibrant Performance # 2717B) instead of the Powerdyne supplied 24" flex hose as it is more durable-remove the factory hood liner because its plastic retainers rub some of the supercharger parts-you may also want to consult the Haynes or Chilton books for your S10 as the Powerdyne instructions are somewhat vague and you may want to remove additional components to ease the install(the blower weighs atleast 35 lbs. so have a helper hold it in place while you tighten its fasteners)-regrettably drag race season is over in Canada(ice racing season starts next month) so i cannnot provide you will any 1/4 mile times this year but i will post the details of all further mods that i have done as soon as i get my S10 chassis dynoed again(hopefully later this month)

    for those of you considering gear swaps-here is a chart listing the final drive ratios for various differentials and the 700R4/4L60E tranny-i got this from the GearVendors website-
    axle ratios->4.88 4.56 4.10 3.73 3.42 3.23 3.08 2.73
    1st gear
    (3.06) -> 14.93 13.95 12.55 11.41 10.47 9.88 9.42 8.35

    2nd gear
    (1.63) -> 7.95 7.43 6.68 6.08 5.57 5.26 5.02 4.45

    3rd gear
    (1.00) -> 4.88 4.56 4.10 3.73 3.42 3.23 3.08 2.73

    4th gear overdrive
    (0.70) -> 3.42 3.19 2.87 2.61 2.39 2.26 2.16 1.91

    Lets say someone wanted to buy the vortech and had a shop that knew what they were doing install it. How much on average you think it would cost including headers and what ever else is needed to add the S/C.
