    backfiring, bogging, rpm's dropping

When I take off from a stop, and slowly roll into the throttle, the blazer will bog untill roughly 20mph, then the rpms will drop from ~1300 to ~600, and rise again, then drop...like a surge. If I get into the throttle agressivly from a stop, the rpms will stay under ~1k, and it sound like its backfiring every couple of seconds, and the truck will lurch forwards.

Seems like the rpm's dropping happens at the first shiftpoint, then stutters at the second one for a second. But I don't think the tranny would cause this, since I had it rebuilt 15,000miles ago (if not less). Dad said he thinks its the fuel pressure regulator.

    I'm clueless.

    99 Blaze, 4wd, 4.3, auto.

119,xxx miles. Never had a problem before, so everything under the hood is factory (save the battery, plugs, oil and filter).
