thats another reason to get rid of the t56

its only a matter of time befor ei pop another rear end. and i dont feel like spenind the money to find an 8.5 and have it set up wiht 4.56's or 4.88's

if i stick with an auto i can run 3.73's with a zexel and a ta cover and be fine with a stock 7.625"

i vote t-56, just think it would be pretty badass in a blazer. even tho a 4l80e would be equally nice(what i want to eventually get)

i say neither... you are right about the fun factor of the manual but there are alot of problems with the 700r4, like that lame .76 OD ratio and its incapability of getting overdrive at anything over 1/2 throttle (3/4 if you have a corvette valve body) if i were you given the power you want i'd actually look into the 2004R out of a monte carlo SS. it has a slightly less steep first gear and full throttle OD shifting, given the aftermarket for this tranny it could be a good platform. due to the popularity of the grand national application.

Thats why you dont do a stock rebuild.
There isnt much difference in 4th gear ratios, if you really wanted to you can switch it out in the 700 (which would make 1st gear less steep) but doing that you wouldnt have to mod the crossmember for the 200r4 and isnt it shorter?

so then how come sy/ty's shift into 4th at WOT

    along with b4c camaros

the trans can be made to shift into 4th at WOT but it much be built accordingly, a stock trans must be built to handle the load, since in 4th the engine is at a mechanical disadvantage and the clutchpack has to bear the brunt of it while the engine is pushing against that mechanical disadvantage. Kinda like trying to hold on to the center of a bar being used as a lever when it's the wrong way around.

also the 700r4 has a .70 over drive ratio

ok 90% of the 700R4's out there do that, i seriously doubt you'll dissasemble a Sy/Ty tranny to make it work in your application.

no but you can make changes to the valve body to do it. Its not unheard of.

getting old isn't fun is it.

one of the main reasons, I switched out the nash 5 speed to the T400

super street eliminator clutch with an aftermarket hydraulic throwout bearing and then got stuck in a 40 mile stop and go detour around Erie PA.

remember, don't skimp on the torque convertor and get a lock up if you are on the street as a daily.

Wire in a defeat switch if its kicking in and out in the 30-40 mph range

6 speed ftw, makes a better driver of you if you can keep consistant times/etc.

but go with the auto, for your personal reasons.
