    Mounting Drag Blocks

What is the best way to mount drag blocks? I drilled holes in the angle iron and then drilled and tapped my frame, but after dragging the piss out of them, the holes tapped in my frame stretched out and I lost two blocks in the process.

Its hard to get a bolt on the back of them, and I thought tapping the frame would be the best solution. Would lock tite help? Or is there anything else I should try to keep them on?

    Thanks :D

i recomend just welding the blocks to your frame...unless your using titanium blocks

I'm going to plate my frame for dragging, I'm also going to weld a piece of 3/8 or 1/2" thick plate my my frame and drill and tap that. Your 3/16 frame is just too thin and weak, but the thicker metal should work for what your doing.

Reason I dont weld a block on is so that I can 1) take them off, and 2) I dont have a welder :( And Id just plate the bottom, but I cant lay, but still have a dragging twitch.

Im only bagged in the front and i mounted mine at the front of my truck because it would be more practical and drivable. but ill look at different mounting locaitons.

on my 88 2wd. just bagged in the front i would plate the crosmember. not sure how to go about mounting blocks. maybe make a mount and bolt it to the side of the frame. then just bol and unbolt the blocks

would it be a stupid idea to cut a hole in the backside of the frame so i could get a nut on and hold it?

if thats the only way you can mount them. i would drill a hole enough to get a socket in there to bolt it up. dont go over board and cut a section of the frame open to fit your hand in there.

Cut like a 2x4 piece of 1/2" plate and drill and tap 2 1/2" bolt holes in it.
Put the plate on the frame...mark the 2 hole locations
Drill out the 2 holes you marked
Line up the holes in the plate with the holes in the frame
Weld the plate to the frame
Now you can bolt your blocks directly to the plate you welded onto the frame...no need for access from the back since the plate is tapped. The holes drilled into the frame just allow you to run a longer bolt (otherwise the bolt would bottom out on the frame before it was fully secured)

    :bigthumb:

1/2" plate, welded to the frame. Worked perfect. Also held up pretty well, and came down hard on a few blocks and it sheared the bolts off before the threads stripped or the welds broke. Thanks!

And dont hate on the shitty welds, I have little experience welding and it was hard to lay a bead with this welder.
