    tranny choice

    My 700r4 is slippin in my 87 s10 blazer i have a 400 3 speed tranny layin around and wondering if it will bolt in and still be able to use the stock drive shaft. thanks.

    the splines on the slip yoke are different. the 400 uses a larger yoke. dont know about the length though.

    Are you running a small block? Or 2.6L, 4.3L? It makes a difference. The V6 700r4's have completely different cases then the standard v8 700r4's. If you have a small block the 400 will match up but you might have to change your driveshaft or yoke, because of splines may differ and length issues.

    not all of that is true. the 2.8 700-r4 is different. (smaller bell housing) the 4.3 and v8 700r4 are the same. the 700r4 is longer then the TH400 so you will need to buy a 400 yoke and need to get the shaft shortend.

    You're gonna have to find a 400 yoke, and chances are you're going to have to lengthen the driveshaft about 1.25"

    I did a 700r --> TH400 conversion over the summer on my truck.
