So I got the engine in last night. It's finally a V8 bug. Haha.

I've managed to get one bolt completely through the mount and the other is in but not through the back of the metal mount plate. I've got to move the rear of the engine about an inch towards the passenger side so it can go all the way through.

On another note, the engine fits great but I'll have to raise the body about 3" to clear the breather and the alternator. Seems dropping the body 6" around the frame was a tad too much. I might have to buy me a lower mounting alternator bracket for a short water pump. Maybe the one I have will fit after I raise the body, but we'll see.

One great thing is the dist. clears the wiper motor compartment by about 2". That's with the motor all the way forward in the mounts so I've got a little wiggle room to move the engine back slightly if needed.

STOP, before you raise, lets see if we can help

you can always mount the alternator stock car style on the rearend.

or notch the passenger side frame, and go electric fuel pump.

can you post a pic showing the other interferes. ................. i'm not getting any pics in this thread tonight so i apologize if you have.

Thanks for offering some help guys. I do plan to get a lower mounting alt bracket or I'm going to see what I can do about flipping the one I have. So that should take care of that problem. I think even with a 2" air filter there will be some interference with the hood. So I'm thinking about fabricating a cowl induction into the current hood. What do you guys think? I think it would look cool. Nothing too dramatic. Maybe a 2-3" cowl.

I'll take some pics this weekend of home much clearance I need. I really like how the body sit, so raising the body would be a last resort deal. I can always get a carb scoop and just let it poke through the hood. That's another option.

Need some fender level pics, with and with out the air filter.

Alternator will not be an issue. I'll take a few pics to give you ideas.

alot depends on what you look are going for.

any hood scoop will make a statement that can't be hidden.

or if you can get a the clearance, use a cone air filter ran to a carb hat. They are easy to get now, i think spectra offers a few kits now

    LOL

I had typed a similar suggestion on my crackberry but lost it.

I was thinking about a rear facing dual carb hat with 3" color coordinated tubing and filter to cold air package.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Here are some pics I snapped while moving the bug that will give you a better idea of how much room I need.

Check out this V-8 bug I saw a couple weeks ago at Beaver Springs Dragway in Central Pennsylvania. Small block Chevy, Cadillac tail fins. Ran around 10.00flat. You might want to try a scoop thru the hood like this one.
