All rear wheel drive 60* v6 heads are the same. The later "H.O." heads may flow a bit better. So there's no help there. I belive '87 was a toss up year on internal or external balance, so you may or may not be able to use a 3.4l crank. I don't think you can bore the 2.8 to match the 3.4's bore. I'm just speaking from what I can recall, so take this info with a grain of salt. Some of it may be wrong......

    i like the "shoehorn" a v8 comment.

its quite obvious you have no idea what you are talking about. a v8 fits into an s10 like it was meant to fit. it makes it no more difficult to work on than a stock truck.

the way i have my truck setup i can still remove the factory water pump on my 5.7L without removing the radiator or cooling fans.

i can still change plugs, wires, cap and rotor in less time than what flate rate calls for.

No silly, hes not building up the 2.8 to go racing or go fast, hes just building it up because he likes to throw money down the drain.

so to answer your question or to give you help

good luck finding any "performance" parts for a 2.8, not many were made being the the motor wasn't built for performance or power.

you can do exhaust, intake, and find someone who still knows how to make a performance chip for the 2.8 and you might be were you want to be

your basically asking if you can add power to a mini van's motor, no point and no parts

thank you for this comment but i wasn't talking about the access to the top end of the motor i was referring to the fact i have a 4x4 and it is not as straight forward as it is for a 2wd... addition parts and clearance around transfer case, etc...

as for everyone else, thank you for your comments. I can now see that so many of you are narrow minded... only going down the road everyone else travels... i perfer to be different and do things against the norm... so if that causes me to put money into a P.O.S. to get something out the other end is "unique" then that is what i'll do... and what is wrong with Modifying a Minivan... there were some nice turbo Caravans back in the day that make nice sleepers....

well i guess you will have to be looking for something to find it but due to the fact that the 2.8 was also in Jeeps, Camero's and izuzu's, there are a lot of parts to upgrade these engines. So i guess that my question won't be answered the way i'm looking for... so Thank everyone for their input.....

    87Slowblaze,
Honestly good luck with the build. If that's what you want to do, then go for it. Keep posting on how it goes, I'm curious to see what you come up with.

but thats just it, in the end, people arent going to say, oh cool, look at that stroked 2.8 with head work and a cam...

only way somone is going to be interested if its an INTERESTING different build. like a turbo 2.0 out of a sunbird... ;)

and as for the acsess thing again, i still dont see how its any harder to work on??? the motor isnt goint to wrap around the whole truck and produce fangs when you get near it, its still going to have the same shap deep rear sump oil pan the 2.8 does, its just a little LONGER. which blocks nothing. If you drill an acsess hole into the power steering pump pulley before you install it, every component will come off like the 2.8 does and requires no other work.

Trust us everyone like something different on here, but........

    ps - welcome.

87slowblaze most of the guys on here no what they are talking about. and we are for helping you out, but like you said, you have already explored the aftermarket options. we are saying spend the same money, and get a larger power plant.
i swapped my 91 4.3 with 190k on it for a 94 4.3 vortec with 116k and i added about 100 miles to the tank for 300 bucks. and i sold the cpi and old block/head for $80.
there are more options then what you think.
