    Wheel bearings and question

so after getting sideswiped by a saturn i noticed my truck now makes a humming noise thats getting annoying i noticed that it goes away on left turns so that means the wheel bearings on the drivers side went bad. what do you recommend i replace them with im guessing theres something out there that could be better than stock since im gonna take the liberty in replacing the front bearings and in the summer do the rear.

last question my 01 S10 had a dust cap how do you get what ever is plugging the bearing a 02 blazer out?

So this is for an 02 Blazer?

I personally prefer the original bearings over aftermarket. The aftermarket I have seen wearing out faster than the original. I personally have been purchasing low mileage bearings from the junkyard and have put almost 30k on a pair in my S10 that I swapped to the Blazer spindles and bearings. I found them on car-part.com for about $50 each.

New OEM bearings are around $3-400 normally, but I have found them on eBay for much cheaper.

Also here is a thread from a year ago talking about replacing the bearings:

Im still riding on that aftermarket bearing. Put 20k on it so far and seems good

The other side actually went shortly after, and i replaced that one too with an aftermarket

What did you break the wrench on? Sounds like some serious rust. Spindles are swappable if you want to go that route after dropping $500 on it. Ouch.

You'll want the whole corner from the spindles out including the brake hose. It will bolt right into the balljoints. May want to tweak the end of the brake line to better angle toward the S10 brake hoses. 22s will probably still wear out the bearings, but they'll be cheaper. Rotors won't be. Also will be downgrading your brakes too, so beware.

Honestly, if you're willing to pay or shop around for the Blazer bearings they are a ton easier to swap out. Remove wheel, remove caliper & bracket, remove 3 bolts and the bearing comes out. Toss some antiseize on the spindle in the bore for the bearing and it will seal it water tight and pop out easy the next time. I picked up a NIB bearing off eBay for $50 last week. They're out there. Part number is 15731627

You can use any year spindle. They're pretty much all the same, but sticking to 98+ probably won't hurt.

You will want to at least have 98+ rotors because their hub is smaller and the 98+ wheels won't fit on the older ones. Just remembered that part. I'm not sure if they changed bearing sizes inside the rotors over the years either.
