you need a resistor of some sort on the alt exciter wire.

gm used the battery light for the resistor in applications that used the CS130 alt. you need roughly 35 ohms of resistance from the 12v source to the alternator. without the resistance you will burn up the exciter coil, the regulator, or both

On the 83-86 carbed S10s there was a module that had the right resistance for the alts. I'll see about a pic in the morning.

ive heard of people hooking that wire up to just switched ign and not having an issue, maybe a different year alt?... what year range was the cs130 alt, just curious?

your most likley thinking of the older SI style alts. Those are a true one wire hookup. they also require a resistance to knock down the current but the resistance is only like 10 ohms and the wire alone is usually enough.

the CS130 came out in the middle 80's to middle 90's not sure on the exact years.

    here is the SI alternators

oh and for anyone who cares i had to run 250 ohms of resistance to get my CS130D to work correctly with my factory charging circuit.

if it has a seperate plug-in that your not using, you need to use it! One of the wires go to a dash light that "tells" the alt to charge and it turns on the light if the alt fails. If the people testing it dont know this, you need to go elsewhere

theres no light(meaning no gauges)! i have two plugs that fit alt...one plug is a 1wire plug the other is a 3wire plug which one do i use to make alt work? wire harness has two wire that can make alt. work, one says alt power on red wire other says alt. exciter on white wire what do i use? this is beyond my knowledge but we learn as we go

the picture states 85 ohms is needed when a light is not used. I have always measured around 35 ohms of resistance. However more resistance would not hurt anything.
