    93 s10 manual trans question...

i have a 93 s10 with a 2.8 v6 and 5 speed. Is that trans a t-5? and will a 94 s10 2.2 trans swap in (belive thats a t-5 too).. from what i can tell it looks the same but i really haven't gotten under it.. i know the bellhousing are probably different but are the trans itself the same?

    thanks!

I know the '93 is a World Class T5 and the parts catalog is telling me the 2.2 is as well. Bellhousings may actually be the same. I know the Iron duke and the 2.8 share the same bellhousing. I just replaced the T5, including bellhousing, in my 2.8 '91 with one from a '93 Iron Duke.

All the T5s have the same main case. The main differences between different vehicles are the input shaft length and the tail housing (mostly for shifter location or adapting a transfer case), so any T5 will bolt up to your bellhousing, but may not spline to the clutch, etc.

I looked at some part numbers. The rear tailhousing is the same, but they didn't have a number associated with the input shaft for 93. The input shaft retainer uses the same part number, though. They also have the same RPO for the transmission. I'm assuming they are the same, but GM has surprised me before haha.

Looked At both today and the bell housings and trans's are completely different. The tail shaft sections are the same however. The mounting bolts to the bell house are about 2 to 3 inches off in spacing. Guess I'll be looking for a new one. Wish this trans I had just laying around swapped in. Looks like I gotta spend some cash now. Lol. Ohh well.

If they're both World Class I don't see why not.

I don't know if you've worked on T5s before, but they're not too hard to take a part and put back together. I like their design for the most part. Just make sure you shim the input shaft correctly. Too little and there will be slop to wear out the pilot bushing amongst other things.... done that... Too much and the bearings will whine and eventually overheat.

Here are some references I used:

If you have any more questions let me know. I've had everything out of mine except for the cluster shaft, now.
