buying a new headunit 02 blazer couple q's

ok so i been wanting a new head unit for the 02. it has the stock double DIN rds head unit which works fine but i cant hook a sub to it. so i went on crutchfield.com and went threw there outfit my car program and found a jvc for $149 shipped with the wiriring harrnes. antenna adapter and the reciver mounting kit free. plus free shipping.

    this is the head unit

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWR500/JVC-KW-R500.html

    1. is this a good head unit for what i wanta do. just plan on running a 1x12 in sealed box with a small amp and cap.

this next part kinda threw me off so i was wondering if it unbolt or do i need to cut.
just want a heads up before i buy it about this part it says Modified fit.

Installation Details for your 2002 Chevrolet Blazer Sport Utility with 4 doors; without Bose system; with RDS
To install this item, you'll have to modify your vehicle.
Unbolt or cut out the factory stereo's rear support bracket to make room for your new receiver.
Video receivers with flip-out monitors may not work in this vehicle because of the configuration of the factory dash.

i had origanlly picked out a single din, wiriring, harness antenna adapter and the reciver mounting kit which came out about the $30 less. the stereo was $70and prob not the best for my $$.

    2. would i get a better deal moving up to a better single din say around $100

    3. wheres the best spot to run my power wire on the passenger side threw the fire wall?

    4. whats the best way to get the remote wire and rcas threw the dash? on my 89 we stuck a coat hanger up threw the bottom of the dash by the gas pedals and just pulled them threw will the same thing work on a 02?

    5. on my 89 i ran the remote and rcas together down the drivers side can i do it the same way or should i run them away from each other?

    6. is crutchfield good to deal with i.e price wise, shipping, customer service?

thats all for now if i think of more i will post it

    1. I did a headunit from crutchfield when i got my 98 and got the same message. All its saying is that there is a support bracket behind the stock unit that needs to be cut out in order to fit the aftermarket headunit because it is longer. i cut mine out with a hack saw and havent had any problems.

    2. i spent 130 on a kenwood single din, had 2 preamp out puts and a sub out put also has the ipod/usb hook up and i love it. this is the one i have
    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDCX...4#overview-tab
but i got it becuase i wanted to run a speaker amp also.

    3. best place for the power wire is the gromet below the ac condensor on the passenger side. you can pull the carpet up on the pass. side and see it on the fire wall. i hid my wire under the sill plates and ran it all the way to the back

    4. i ran my rcas and remote wire behind the cluster bezel and ran them down the drivers side and under hid then under the sill plates.

    5. i havent had any problems running my rcas and remote wire together. its the power wire and rcas that will give you radio interference if im not mistaken

    6. i ordered my headunit and a basic sub package and a box from crutchfield. turns out the same package cost about $50 less at best buy, but you dont get the wiring harness so it still works out, plus shipping is free.

I have an alpine 910 double din in mine and I absolutely love it. I would recommend it if you have the money and wanna make good use of that double din slot.

    1. Id rather see you get something like this :http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...eiver/KDC-452U

    2. see above

    3. wheres the best spot to run my power wire on the passenger side threw the fire wall? right by the antenna or even through the antenna grommet if the wire is small enough

    4. whats the best way to get the remote wire and rcas threw the dash? on my 89 we stuck a coat hanger up threw the bottom of the dash by the gas pedals and just pulled them threw will the same thing work on a 02? either straight down by the ac and past the antenna hole area or up and over the glovebox and down the kick panel area

    5. on my 89 i ran the remote and rcas together down the drivers side can i do it the same way or should i run them away from each other? together is fine now a days. In the old days it was power and remote down one side, speaker wire down the middle, and rcas down the side away from power

    6. is crutchfield good to deal with i.e price wise, shipping, customer service? there can be better places, local shops even, nice to have a brick and mortar store to return to should there be a problem

thats all for now if i think of more i will post it[/QUOTE]

    $159.99 on crutchfield
    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDC4...rand%7cKenwood

The only reason I wanted to use crutchfield is. I can get the reciver mounting kit. Wiring harness and antenna adapter free. All the local places want $75 for all the other stuff on top of a $100 / $150 for a good headunit.

Cant go wrong with kenwood but that Jvc deck isnt to bad either! I actually put that same jvc in my daily and I love it! Plus the double din just makes for a cleaner install so you dont have to look at a kit! Either way good choice!

edit button isnt working sorry for somemany replys, its late and i keep forgetting to add stuff.

will it be ok driving around with the headlight, dimmer controls and rear wiper controls not plugged back into the bezel? just till i get a new harness. im gonna call them tommorrow and i hope they will overnight it. if not im gonna get it locally. also i dont have to cut anything in the dash to make room for the reciver kit or headunit its seems to fit fine and will bolt right in with no other mods. the reciver kit is a scosche part # gm 1583b
