If you had a grand to spend..........

From head unit to subs and everything in between, what would it be? Going in a 2000 4 door Blazer. I kinda know what I want, but I'd like to hear some other ideas. Components will be bought and installed in about 200 to 300 dollar increments. All around music, so sealed may be the way to go. I used to have an epicenter (and loved it), so include that as well.

p.s. Drivable is a must, so no walls. This is for my 14 yr old soon to be 16 yr old.

So you want to buy a complete system for 1k??? What kinda "sound" are you looking to get? SQ, "Bass", etc?? I don't think a DD is possible with that budget. If you don't mind buying used your options would be MUCH better. Head over to http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/ and look around for some good buys. A single sub setup would be good, but I would recommend going ported. You can get great SQ out of a ported box as you would out of a sealed box with a wider range.

For a 16 year old, I would keep it simple and go with a decent head unit, subs and an amp. Dont think I'd start off a new driver with a full sound system as they aren't used to driving and need as little distraction as possible.

Although His son and my daughter (both 16 and just starting to drive) I would agree 100% with you. That's why I suggested a simple 1 sub setup that would give you good sound but not completely distract them from what they should be doing...... Paying attention to the road, lol. Dez is going to be lucky if she even gets anything more than a set of comps in the door right away, lol.

I've owned a single Memphis PR10 in a ported box and it was ok in a 92 mustang hatch. Next was a single PR12 ported in the trunk of a 95 mustang it was better (built box myself). Back in the day, I had 4 Kicker 15's in a sealed box in the back of my S10 (snug top with walkthru). Good ole Fosgate Punch 200's (2 for subs) and it rocked! It metered around the mid 140's IIRC (1994).

    I was thinking about this:

    2-Memphis PR12 SVC 4 ohm
    1-Kicker 11ds652 6.5 Component System W/20mm Twt
    1-Kicker DS65 6.5" Coax Speakers (Pair)
    1-P4.500 - Soundstream 4-Channel Picasso Series Full-Range Amplifier
1-P1.1200D - Soundstream Monoblock Class D Picasso Series Amplifier
    1-Head unit (undecided)

If there's something on this list that I could substitute for a better price and/or better quality for same price, please let me know. I dont really know that much about Kicker's new stuff.

I've always had good luck with Memphis subs. Same as above, substitute?

Not calculating wires, wood, and other installation equipment, this total is within my budget (minus epicenter of course). I already have an extra Optima Red Top from my race car I sold (two total, one already installed under hood). I also have welding lead for power cable and ground (also from race car).

    Total so far......

    Clarion Head Unit - 54.00
    Clarion EQ - 49.00
    MB Quart Formula Component set x2 (6.5 and tweeter-2 sets) - 113.00
    Boston 4 x 6 coaxs - FREE

So, thats 216.00 so far. Now looking for decent 4 channel amp, sub amp, and subs. This is what I'm looking at now:

    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...-DTS15001.html 165.00

    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...DTS-500.4.html 90.00

    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...o-SEX12D4.html 360.00

Thats another $615.00, which brings a total to $831.00. Factor in various wiring components, wood, fans for amp rack, and unseen costs and I should keep it around budget.

Any more suggestions? I know I need to do the Big 3, and I will soon. Will these RE products perform pretty good when paired up, or should I go with a different brand of amp?

RE audio's quality has dropped off greatly since being sold. I personally wouldn't bother. You'd be better off going with MB Quartz, Clarion, Kicker, Boston Acoustic, Alpine, PPI, Phoenix Gold, & Sound Stream for amps. As for Subs, look into Sundown Audio, Skar audio, Tantric Sounds, Obsidian Audio, Sound Solusion Audio. Most of these are "under ground" brands, but are great for the price and can out last anything new out from RE Audio. YOu can also go with the usual brands like Alpine (Type R only), Sound Stream, & Kicker as well for subs.

    OK, revised (per your advice).

    4 channel amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...t-ONX4.60.html $110.00
    Mono amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...NX1.1500D.html $170.00
    2 12's http://www.1800woofers.com/products/...SUBWOOFER.html $390.00

$670.00 bucks. I take it this would be a better setup. I know the sub amp is not gonna push them like they can handle, but it should be good enough for daily listening and showing off to his friends.

Or, the Obsidian 12's are only $276.00 bucks. Will I notice a difference between those and the Sundowns?

100x better. For your application, you won't notice any major difference between the 2. However, check the stock of the Obsidian. They were out of stock for a while.
