OK, OK.... Let's settle this once and for all..

If a done up 4.3L is the same as a 350, then what the hell is better? The V6 would get better milage, but the V8 would ultimately sound 100 times better (I would think...), and I want dual exhaust and headers, but can that only be done on V8's???

Guys, I'm an idiot here, HELP AN IDIOT OUT!

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THATS HOLY, I'M STUPID!

(cue crying like a little bitch)

But seriously, can someone PLEASE help me out here???

    Headers

There are good header kits out there for v-6's too.

A 4.3 will sound good (not as good as a v-8) if you get the right muffles and use big enough tubes for the exhaust.

The 4.3 will get marginally better mileage, the reason is at a specific speed it takes a certain RPM to maintain that speed right. Well a larger engine will use more air (read gas) than a smaller one at any given RPM, but the larger one will accelerate to that speed faster and more efficiently and require less effort to maintain the speed desired.

So yank the 6 and put in an 8 if you have the money otherwise get the exhaust, air cleaner, and chip and save up for the big swap.

I don't know about you all on the west and east coasts but here in the middle 350's are everywere.
and VERY cheep too. I found a complete VORTEC 350 with everything for only $650 all the way to a 4bolt standard bore bare block for 75-50 bucks!

If that dosn't sound cheep to you w/o a buddy deal, I don't know what is!

    Mpg

My father has a 77' chevy 3/4 ton with a 454 and he usually gets around 10- 12 mpg, he doesn't frive very fast though. But when i drive it like its meant to be i can get about 10, so it all depends on how the engines built and what kind of shape it's in

I went out this weekend and got estimates on rebuilt 350's.

Best deal I found was at this Moore's place. $1100 for a rebuild if I go to a wreckers and bring them a used block. $1450 for a rebuild that they supply the original block and stuff. That saves me going and working out in the snow pulling a motor that is crushed in. I'll go to the wreckers for other things though for the install... water pump, starter, thermostat housing, etc...
