    Question tUrbO?

i got a 4.3 in a 94 2wd (not a vortec... but looks like one.... not the stanard 4.3, think its a "Tahoe" package).i wanted to put a turbo in there to juice it up a little, i was wondering what all i needed to do to the engine before i can do this. also, someone told me that i had to put an intercooler and a new manifold in before i could put a turbo in, are they 4 real?

yea, you dont need an intercooler but it cools the air yadd ayadda yadda more power

you have first you need about $3000 unless you got a hookup

you need forged steal internals, crank rods, low compression pistons, perf. rings, bearings.

    high volume oil pump

turbo, intercooler, all piping, wastegate, turbo manifolds

    manifold with turbo plenum

ignition with an advance and retard box

    boost gauge

bigger fuel pump, oil lines for the turbo.

that stock 4.3 you have aint gonna hold up to it. get some books and read up on it before you get into it.

Turbo's aren't exactly a novice thing. It takes a lot of know how, and a ton of tuning. You can boost your stock motor, but not too much. The Sy/Ty's werent' really anything special, just turbo 4.3.

I would recommend a centerfugal supercharger. Less to upgrage and no turbo lage.

It is pretty tough to turbo a V6.

    Just my opinion.

Centrifical supercharges can have some of the" lag" of a turbo.

A supercharger/blower is going to be the easiest. But, finding one might be a little hard. Is that TBI?

thats the one where the air filter is not on top, right? well thats what i got. i mean it looks like a Vortec in every way, just doesn't say Vortec under the hood.

blow your motor and have stuff go out your exhaust, you blow the turbo.

Rev it up to clean out the motor and shut it right off, you blow the turbo because the bearings end up running dry as the turbo spools down.

Shut it down while extremely hot, you blow the turbo because you "coke" the oil in the bearings. (hint run synthetic oil)

On the plus side, at 14 lbs of boost you double your normal part throttle horsepower. run an automatic so you don't have to let off, turbo's do make power and are daily drivable, although I haven't tried it on an S10 yet. I have ridden in a couple slightly tweeked v6 grand national buicks and an impressive turboed 260 datson inline 6 which ran low 12s.

just put a smallblock in it and get it over with, it would cost as much as a turbo and probably much easier to do.
