finding a good donar car for a v8 swap.

i do junk cars for a living, and come accross all kinds of stuff. alot of the junkyards i work with will also giveme free stuff if its for my truck. i got a 94 v6 4.3 4wd s10 extended cab. i am wondering what cars come with a tune port 350 that will swap right in. ovosully the camaro and impala. but what other cars shouldi keep my eyes out for. can i easly swap the tune port setup onto a newer 350 truck motor.

i am planning on converting to awd so ill prob be keeping this tranny, using the bravada tcase and axles but what about a rearend? i want to swap to somthing with read disc brakes

other than corvette, i dont think any other car used the tpi setup, dont quote me on that tho. And that injection setup willl bolt onto any gen 1 350 aka up to 95, vortec had different intake bolt pattern.

As for rearend, i too have a 4wd and i put in an 8.8 out of a for exploder or navajo which has damn near the same track width as a stock s-series rear end width, the leaf spring mounts are the same to so it practically bolts right in. i made a post with some info, as there are other tutorials about that swap. But its a killer rear end for how strong they are, and it comes in disk brake version too but unfortunatly the rotors make the wheel mounting point farther out so your tires would stick out past the fenders so thats why i stayed drum.

Man you ought to just get an ls motor and be done with it for the price you could probably get it for. U can still use the tranny, just get a spacer so the flywheel is in the correct spacing and well....lots of other things but its totally up to u man.

Dont remember what ratios the rear come in, 3:55, 3:73, im guessing yours is 3:42, so you;ll have to match the front ratio, they dont have a matching ratio ford/chevy, iirc but cant remember which one it is.

Honestly, trash the 4wd man, it wont even benifit you lol. i pulled a 2 sec 60 ft with street tires, that tpi engine wont make enough power to burn the tires for blocks anyways, its only gonna weigh your truck down and make you have to spend the money for the expensive conversion oil pan. now if you had somthing with 350 hp or somthing that would be pretty nice to have.

i actually have plans of converting to awd. i had a 2wd 96 but got rid of it for the 4x4 so i can convert to awd. i need it for out winters, mud and what not. i really dont want anytihng for the rear that is going to stick out further then the stock already does. ill look into some other rear disc conversions

Camaro started using the TPI in 1985.

Camaro, Trans Am, and Vette were all using TPI in '85. The TPI 350 wasn't available in Camaro or Trans Am 'til '87. And even then it was an optional package. Most TPI Camaro and Trans Am will be 305, but it will all work on the 350 with larger injectors. Pay attention to year model as the '85 and '86 will be for old style heads. Also 90ish Caprice were rwd and TPI, along with the Impala.

IMO rear disks are over rated, although it is easer to change pads than shoes

The LT1 from a 96 is a good choice for the swap

if you are going have to deal with wiring with tpi then i would go with ls based engines if were you. since you do junk cars. you can get everything off it go from there. the swap will require a pan from turbotime. http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f213/w...tarted-319641/

since you want to do the AWD you will need that pan. if you want to ditch the AWD setup and go with the 2WD setup. then pan from hummer will fit from what i am hearing. and it is half the price of the vette pan. just my 2 cents.
